First stop: Munich and Dachau

Over the past few weeks, I've done a lot of traveling, but the first stop was a weekend trip to Munich, Germany. Kate came to visit me and straight from the airport we took off for our road trip. My friends Sarah, Michelle, and Katie all came as well making for a full car and lots of fun. Only 20 minutes from Munich is the Dachau concentration camp, so we spent an afternoon there too. These are some of the pictures from our weekend trip.

These first 3 pictures are from Munich. The first is the city mark. Munich means monk and therefore the symbol is a monk. The second is the town hall and it has a large Glockenspiel (coo-coo-clock)on the tower that goes off twice a day. The third is Frauenkirche, the largest church in the city. We took a short walking tour of the city where we got a little history on the sights, but we left early to go to Dachau.

These next 5 are of us doing our own tour around Munich. It involved a lot of jumping.

These last 2 are from the Dachau concentration camp, the first camp ever opened. It was a pretty eerie place. They used this camp as a prototype for the other Nazi concentration camps that followed. The first picture is the gate that leads you into the grounds. It reads, "Work will set you free" and the second is in the crematorium. Those are the same ovens they used to cremates the bodies.
